It was nice and sunny out today and the goldies were chilling in the shallow part of the pond. Their colors looked lovely in the sun, so I decided to take some quick photos! I’ll take better ones once I’ve found a good cheap photo tank.
Here’s Antoine. He’s had some problems with the cold the first few weeks and acted a bit lethargic, but now that the weather is getting better he is constantly swimming around and chasing Leon. He also seems to have gained a bit of much-needed weight, but he’s still the smallest/skinniest of the three.

I’ve had kai since she was penny sized and now she’s about the size of my palm AND she had a baby this year and ugh I love her to bits.

Are those really two goldfish in a bowl with a crab? You should definitely get them out of there as soon as possible and into a 30 gallon tank for the two of them. Goldfish cannot live in bowls and the crab likely needs brackish or salt water.

My friend’s boarding stable has 3 or 4 goldfish in each of the troughs out in the pasture. I’m not sure how effective this is, so if anyone has any info, please enlighten me on this subject.

Definitely not a good idea at all, the goldfish will just poop in the water and make it dirty! I don’t think there’s any solution other than just cleaning them out regularly (daily?) yourself.

I haven’t had the chance to buy her a friend yet - Since I’m planning to move out soon, I need to work a lot and search for a place to live.. So I don’t have much time. :/ When I’ve moved, I’ll get her a new friend.

I think putting a new fish in a quarantaine period right now isn’t a good idea, I’ll probably move out when the quarantaine is finished, and moving itself will be stressfull for the fish, since I’ll have to move the new fish again.. And I don’t really like that idea. So it’ll have to wait, sadly :/

Would you know when Pimafix is expired? I bought some about a year ago and used it for my betta. I now seem to have to use it again (noticed a tiny bit of fuzz on my fish and want to catch it before anything terrible happens). However, do you think it will be any good? It's got a cloudy appearance. I can't remember how it's meant to look. Thanks :)

I don’t think it expires since Pimafix is just oils mixed with water, there is no actual medication in it.
I wouldn’t recommend using it because it rarely works and can cause extra problems in fish/aquariums, like bacteria blooms. That’s your choice though :)

Except that now the internet is telling me that a single common goldfish requires no fewer than fifty fucking gallons and now I’m finding more people that say that you actually shouldn’t keep goldfish in a tank because they get 18” long so the only proper way to keep them is in a pond I’m so confused how does one even keep fish

It’s true, unfortunately. Fancies need less space, though, they are much better suited for aquarium life :)
For the 5 gallon I’d definitely go for a betta, though. It’s too small for any type of goldfish/tetra/danio.

Shouldn’t you have quarantined the smaller sick fish if it’s being treated for something? Also, even for quarantine you’re going to need a 10+ gallon tank/tub, otherwise wastes build up too quickly even with daily 100% water changes :)

I don't know what it might be, really. If I did about an inch of sand at the bottom, could I do loaches as tankmates for them? Otherwise I know I'd love to have a red capped oranda, second black moor, or maybe a ranchu :3 But that'd be a tank that I'd have to have just for me, lol. We've currently got a 10, a 40 needing set up but already have that sorted between me and my boyfriend... I'd have to buy another 20-30 for the goldies x3 Boyfriend just doesn't ogle-eyed fish. Barely likes see-thru.

I know some people keep weather loaches with their goldfish, but you’d have to get a pretty big tank to be able to keep them. Plus you’d still need to get at least one other goldfish to keep your moor happy!
If you got another 30-40 you could set up a great goldfish tank!

I am taking a look over the links you've got on your page, but I was wondering if you had any tips for black moors? I'm not intending on getting one even next month by any stretch, but I do really want to get one despite what my boyfriend wants - they just look so adorably derpy and seem like they'd be just about as much a riot as my mystery snail Honey is. (Trust me, she can get up to some really weird antics, by my low standards - she's my first snail.)

Black moors and other telescope eyes and demekins are lovely, they’re my favourite types of fancy goldfish and they are, indeed, incredibly derpy and silly. I have two and I’m definitely considering a third one.
For tank size, follow the regular guidelines for fancies - 20 gallons for the first one and 10 gallons for every next one with double filtration (canister filters are preferable) as an absolute minimum. 20 gallons per fish works much better in my opinion, I kept 3 fancies in a 40 gal and the amount of water changes almost drove me insane!
Be sure to cycle the tank because fancy goldfish are pretty sensitive and will get all kinds of problems when exposed to nitrites and ammonia. For the bottom of the tank, use either a thin layer of pool filter or river sand or no bottom at all. Gravel brings with it all kinds of problems and sharp gravel might actually hurt your Moor’s eyes. That being said, also try avoiding any decorations that aren’t rounded, because they are pretty clumsy!
When it comes to decorating the tank I personally prefer a barebottom tank with a few rocks/pieces of driftwood with java fern/anubias tied to them, as it’s easy to keep clean, it’s safe for telescope eyes and goldfish will eat pretty much all other plants anyway.
As for where to buy your moor, try finding a local breeder/importer who treats their fish well or an online goldfish auction site like Dandy Orandas or Raingarden. That way you have a much better chance of getting a healthy fish that won’t get any problems later on, and you don’t contribute to regular pet stores that often treat their fish badly.

If you do go for a black moor in the end, be sure to submit a photo! I’d love to see him/her - and his/her friend, as goldfish should never be kept alone. For the second fish, maybe consider a panda moor? ;)

I hope the goldfish aren’t in the 5 gal? They need at least 30 gallons for the two of them. In a 5 gal, they will get growth deformities and will probably die within weeks/months. For more info, check out this article - all the info in there applies to tiny fish tanks just as it does to bowls.
